Despite being arguably the most fundamental human condition, “freedom” is something we all continue to fight for in endless ways. Regardless of the magnitude, all of these fights have a spiritual foundation - something within your individual being that believes that the current condition of your individual or collective existence must change in some way. The phrase, “You Are Free Because of Enslaved African Women,” is one that illuminates the spiritual and literal implications of the only successful rebellion of enslaved people in world history while additionally creating a mirror that prompts the viewer or the wearer to contemplate their freedoms, or lack of. Regardless of your “race”, gender, creed, sexuality or whatever other earthly identifier you choose, this message acknowledges the complexities of our existence while additionally celebrating the origins of humanity’s roots.
